DoWEA Americas students at Andre’ Lucas Elementary School celebrated the Month of the Military Child with a week of community events that highlighted service, resilience and shared values during Andre’ Lucas Spirit Week, April 20-24.

Led by guidance counselor Shelly Stine and PTO President Heather Booi with support from numerous volunteers, the activities blended fun, hands-on learning and appreciation for military families. The week’s centerpiece was the school’s first Military Field Day, which gave students direct exposure to the roles and responsibilities of service members.

Booi credited participating units for making the event memorable. Each student received a challenge coin, courtesy of Stand By Collective, as a keepsake.

Service members from several Fort Campbell units engaged students through interactive stations. Activities included exploring an Infantry Squad Vehicle, practicing basic first aid and CPR on training manikins, learning oral hygiene techniques with stuffed animals, and participating in a “Frag Out” water balloon target challenge. Soldiers shared insights into their daily duties and the commitments required in uniform.

Sgt. Diaz noted the experience prompted personal reflection on the lessons he hopes to pass to his own child. SGT Sanchez enjoyed teaching face painting and building connections with the children, while CPT Butler observed students’ earnest efforts and relatable challenges at the medical care station.

The week concluded with the annual Purple Up Picnic on the school lawn, where families, students and staff enjoyed live music by the 101st Airborne Band. The tradition, started by Stine, reinforced community bonds and recognition of the unique contributions of military-connected children.

Supporting units included:

  • 1-502 IN “First Strike”
  • Fort Campbell Law Enforcement Company
  • Fort Campbell Veterinary Services
  • Fort Campbell Dental Team
  • 6-101 AVN REGT “Shadow,” 101st ABN DIV (AASLT)
  • 526 Light Support Battalion

These events align with DoWEA’s emphasis on civics and patriotism by fostering greater understanding between the military community and the next generation of citizens.
